Les jeux Olympiques de Londres en 2012 seront les premiers Jeux diffusés en direct et en 3D, a annoncé la société japonaise Panasonic dans un communiqué mercredi. Les téléspectateurs pourront entre autres voir en 3D les cérémonies d’ouverture et de clôture, l’athlétisme, la gymnastique et la natation, selon la société, fournisseur officiel des équipements audiovisuels sur les Jeux.

Remember that crazy wearable 3D display concept Sony was showing off at CES 2011? Turns out the company is actually going to make it, and the HMZ-T1 is scheduled to be released in Japan on November 11th. While the design has changed slightly since we first laid our eyes, and heads, on it, the specs appear to be the same, with two 1280×720 0.7-inch OLED panels mounted in front of each eye giving the wearer an experience similar to viewing a 750-inch screen from 20m away, as well as 5.1 surround sound from headphones integrated into the Head Mounted Display (HMD).

There’s no word from the official Olympics host broadcaster OBS, but equipment manufacturer EVS is already confirming the 2012 London Olympics will be covered in 3D. According to The Hollywood Reporter, at least 10 Olympic venues are on deck for 3D cameras with broadcasts for « a few of the main events » planned. In the UK the rights holder is the BBC who has already toyed with 3D broadcasts a bit, but it’s hard to tell what that could mean here in the US.
